Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is physiotherapy and how can it benefit me?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession focused on restoring movement and function when someone is a=ected by pain, injury, or disability. We use a variety of techniques such as exercise, manual therapy, education, and other modalities to help improve physical strength, mobility, and overall quality of life. Physiotherapy can benefit individuals with a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, respiratory problems, and more.

  • What is the role of Pilates in physiotherapy?

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on strengthening & toning muscles, activating the core (deep stabiliser muscles groups), improving flexibility, and enhancing overall body awareness and control. In physiotherapy, Pilates can be used as a rehabilitative tool to help individuals recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, or return to you back to previous or better physical function. Pilates emphasises core stability, alignment, and controlled movement, which can also complement traditional physiotherapy techniques and promote long-term recovery.

  • How do I know if I need Physiotherapy or Remedial Massage?

Physiotherapy is typically recommended for individuals who have musculoskeletal or movement-related issues that require assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Remedial massage, on the other hand, primarily focuses on manipulating soft tissues to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. If you're unsure which option is best for you, give our reception a call, and have a chat with one of our physiotherapists, we can help determine the most appropriate course of action based on your specific needs.

  • Do I need a referral from a doctor to schedule an appointment?

No. If you do not have private health insurance, but would like a discount on your fee, you do need a referral from a doctor called an EPC.

  • How many Pilates sessions are usually required for noticeable improvement?

The number of Pilates sessions needed for noticeable improvement can vary depending on individual goals, existing fitness level, and the severity of any underlying conditions. Generally, a consistent practice of Pilates, typically 2-3 sessions per week, over several weeks or months, is recommended to experience significant benefits such as increased strength, tone, flexibility, and postural alignment. However, if you remain consistent (consistency is key) with your practice, doing as little as 1 session a week on the reformer and 1 x 20minute at home session with your homework given in your 1 on 1 session, could give you your desired results.

  • What should I wear to a Pilates session?

WE HAVE GRIP SOCKS AVAILABLE. It's best to wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows for ease of movement and provides adequate support. Avoid overly baggy or restrictive clothing that may interfere with your ability to perform exercises effectively. Many people prefer to wear athletic attire such as leggings, shorts, fitted tops or loose tees during Pilates sessions.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

Physio: There is a specified timeframe of 24hours which you must cancel your appointment with the Provider, to avoid being charged a cancellation fee. After 3 missed appointments or late cancellations you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee.

Pilates: The cancellation policy is available on the booking app, depending on what you desire to purchase. There is a specified timeframe of 24hours which you must cancel your class, to avoid being charged a cancellation fee. This is because the classes often books up, and has a waiting list, if you do not attend, someone else could have booked that machine for the desired timeslot and thus you will be charged full class rate.

  • Do you accept health insurance?

YES! Physiotherapy, Massage & Pilates sessions are covered and what your out-of- pocket costs may be is dependent on your personal cover and health insurance provider.

  • How do I schedule an appointment or inquire about your services?

To schedule an appointment or inquire about our services, you can directly contact us via phone, email, or through our booking app. We will be able to provide you with information regarding availability, pricing, and any other questions you may have. Look forward to hearing from you soon! Contact Us.

  • Can Pilates help with chronic pain management?

Yes, Pilates can be beneficial for chronic pain management, particularly for conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain, and joint pain. Pilates exercises focus on improving core strength, flexibility, and posture, which can help alleviate strain on the body and reduce pain over time. Thus, it's essential to work with a qualified instructor or physiotherapist who can tailor the exercises to your specific needs and ensure proper technique to avoid exacerbating existing pain or injuries – WHICH IS US AT INNER BALANCE HEALTH!

  • Should I book in for a 1 on 1 Clinical Pilates session before jumping into the Pilates studio classes?

YES! Booking a 1-on-1 Clinical Pilates session before joining Pilates studio classes is super beneficial, especially if you're new to Pilates or have specific goals, injuries, or conditions that require individualised attention.

Here are some reasons why booking a 1-on-1 session might be advantageous:

Personalized Assessment: A 1-on-1 session allows the instructor to assess your current fitness level, movement patterns, and any areas of weakness or imbalance. This assessment provides valuable insight into your individual needs and helps tailor the Pilates program to address them effectively.

Customized Program: Based on the assessment, we can design a personalised Pilates program that targets your specific goals and addresses any limitations or concerns you may have. This customised approach ensures that you're performing exercises safely and e=ectively to maximize benefits and minimise the risk of injury.

Focus on Technique: In a 1-on-1 session, you'll receive focused attention from us, so we can provide detailed instruction and feedback on proper technique and alignment. This attention to detail helps you develop a solid foundation of Pilates principles, which is essential for success in group studio classes.

Progress Monitoring: Regular 1-on-1 sessions allow for ongoing monitoring of your progress and adjustments to your program as needed. This ensures that your Pilates practice continues to challenge you appropriately and remains aligned with your goals over time.

While booking a 1-on-1 Clinical Pilates session before joining studio classes can be beneficial, it's not always necessary, particularly if you're already familiar with Pilates or prefer the dynamics of group classes. Ultimately, the decision depends on your individual needs, preferences, and goals. If you're uncertain, just ask one of our qualified Pilates instructors or your physiotherapist at Inner Balance Health, and we can help you determine the best approach for starting your Pilates journey.
